Glenpark and Teams Medical Practice Proposed Merger Engagement
We recently ran a 6 week engagement process about your views on the proposed merger of Glenpark Medical Practice and Teams Medical Practice.
172 patients (110 from Glenpark and 62 from Teams) completed the feedback forms (either online or on paper) and several people also attended the drop-in events.
The following is a summary of the questions/comments that were raised:
- You asked whether you would need to have appointments with the other practice.
The plan is to provide routine care from both sites. However, in the future you could be offered an appointment at either site if this was more convenient or suitable for you. Sometimes a service requires specialist equipment, so there might be some services that we only offer from one site.
- You asked why the practices are merging
Merger is an exciting opportunity to create a sustainable long-term primary healthcare team that will benefit all our patients. The NHS, particularly General Practice, is under increasing pressure and developing a larger team will reduce the risk of practice closures.
- You asked what happens when you have been removed from one practice’s list.
If issues occur we will review things on an individual basis
- You asked how this would benefit patients.
Patients can continue to book an appointment at the site where they are registered, and in future we hope there will be more choice by offering patients appointments at both sites. Patients will have the opportunity to use services that are currently unique to each practice site, which we have already started doing with good feedback.
We are working together to maintain a high quality of service by learning from each other and sharing good practice between the sites. We are aiming to become more sustainable when the NHS, in particular General Practice, is under increasing pressure, by developing a larger team which will reduce the risk of practice closures.
- You had concerns about continuity of care.
There have been no planned job losses or redundancies and patients can continue to book in for appointments with their current healthcare team. We are aiming to try to improve continuity of care as we look to review our appointment systems.
- You had concerns that staff may lose their jobs.
There have been no planned job losses or redundancies and in fact we have employed additional staff to work across both sites.
- You asked whether merging practices would make it easier to get appointments.
Currently the appointment systems at both sites are unchanged. However in the future when we review our appointment systems, we hope that appointments will be available to patients to access across both sites. We also hope that patients can benefit from services that are currently unique to each practice.
- Will this affect housebound patients?
No, we will continue to work closely with our community teams as we do now.
We wish to thank all the patients for providing their views.
We also wish to let patients know that they may also wish to refer to further information provided when the merger was announced as well as the FAQs
Thank you again for your continued support.
